Michael tagged for this one. I always swore to myself that i was going to politely reject any tags, but it is Specht, it is Music, and it is Rage. I can only imagine how deep this program has cut into the psyche of Australians that have grown with it, having only enjoyed it since I migrated to Australia in my twenties.

Thing is, back in Latin America radio was ok to get music from all over (you have no idea how successful men at work, inxs and dragon were in Peru). However, video clips were few and scarce; so when I came over here I would waste entire weekends watching rage, and then flicking to video hits and whatever any other music video programs there were.

I think you will find that my selection is unashamedly dated, very much a trip down memory lane for many of you. Give them a go if you have the chance, you might hear them in a dance cover sometime soon :-)

bedlam bridge – midnight oil

Would love to invite my buddy Kris, The Asia Pacific Headhunter(do they have rage in NZ?), Brett and John Pospisil to make their compilations public? I am sure I will find a few pearls therein.

Have a great week

I am going to cebit tomorrow. Scored the breakfast for the opening of the bloggerzone at the exhib

Yes, it’s not Vegas, but if there’s something interesting and wonderful for the recruitment vertical, I will certainly let you know about it.

Have a good week

Could not pass this up.

Got a email from the Product Director at Seek, whom I have known for a few years now. He needs at Head of Usability for his team; it might be a tough role to fill, but if anything my perception is that he’s got the potential to offer interesting work, plus he has the employer brand to back his stated commitments about employee care. It’s an well written ad in my book, too…

… except the ad has been posted to LinkedIn and broadcast to this guy’s network in this system; as I write this I could not find an ad for this role on the Seek site.

My guess is the job ad will be on his site eventually; I also think that there are also a couple of recruiters working on the assignment and my colleague might be looking to search for resumes overseas, posting on niche boards (might be a stretch, but why the heck not?) and doing everything he has to do to get the top talent he needs.

In other words, he’s not locking himself into advertising into one single channel. That’s what you do when you need candidates.

Do you do just more of the same to get who you need? If Yes, let’s chat

Back in my day, whenever any of the divisions of an old employer of mine wanted to run a one-off poll from the company’s website to produce a news piece, or advice to job seekers, or get input to complement/test other research projects; we would have to scramble to either buy poll software, or deal with free code that would never work as intended, or – worst of all – give someone the idea that we needed to build it from scratch.

Just in case you come across this situation and need a poll in a rush to ensure that you don’t lose momentum, you can build your poll at polldaddy

Hope you had a good long weekend

Long introduction not required: I give you Jobsinpods

People get audio files from jobsinpods with career info, employer details (what’s it like to work at acme, values, testimonials) and actual job openings, that can be listened to on their iPods or mp3 players whilst on their way to their soon-to-be ex-employer :-)

Flipside, it provides a mobile channel to agencies and employers interested in marketing to potential candidates via alternative media (you noticed how many people with earplugs on the train, ferry, streets – right? there you go)

Despite the candidate shortage, the majority of employers in Australia remain reluctant to recruit long-term unemployed candidates, believing in stereotypes that they are lazy and out of work by choice.

A 4% unemployment rate means s**t to a lot of people. Individuals that have been consistently out of work face a 100% unemployment rate, that’s the number that matters to them. Unemployment, just like national savings, birth rates, etc are all personal experiences disguised as macroeconomic variables.
